A brief rundown of the different types of chargers: 

Rapid D.C. chargers….
These are large heavy set units, the variety usually seen situated in service stations etc. They charge the battery using direct current. Using three phase power, these chargers can fully charge batteries in a fraction of the time that domestic chargers take.

Fast chargers…..

These domestic style fast chargers operate with A.C ( alternating current ).
Typically in the 7kw range, these charge the battery in around 8 hours. They are more often than not wall mounted.

Slow chargers…..

These are only really used as an emergency back up. They operate via a standard 13a socket outlet, and take around 12 hours to charge the car. It is not advisable to use these on a regular basis, as it can potentially overload your socket circuit.
